Section 2675.1 of the Government Code requires after possession is taken of any vehicle by or on behalf of any legal owner thereof under the terms of a security agreement or lease agreement, the debtor shall pay the Sheriff’s Office a fee of $15.00 for the receipt and filing of the report of repossession pursuant to section 28 of the Vehicle Code before the vehicle may be redeemed by the debtor.

You must fill out an Authorization for Vehicle Release online link here or at the Amador County Sheriff’s Office. At this time, you will need to provide the vehicle description including the vehicle license plate or vehicle identification number and pay the $15.00 fee. You will be provided with the original authorization.

Stored Vehicle Release (CHP 180) – No fee

When a vehicle is towed and stored by Amador County Sheriff’s Personnel, you will be required to obtain a release from the Amador County Sheriff’s Office prior to getting your vehicle out of storage. If your vehicle was towed due to you not having a valid driver’s license, it will be necessary for you to bring two drivers with you who have valid driver’s licenses in their possession. If your vehicle did not have valid registration or insurance at the time that it was towed and stored, you will also need to provide valid registration and insurance documents before a release will be issued to you.
